Why ATTAIN puts so much into Wigan Borough Business Awards
There are some projects that become much more than work, and for ATTAIN, Wigan Borough Business Awards is one of them.
As co-founders and Digital Partner of the awards, we’ve been involved in developing WBBA from the beginning, working alongside the wider team to create an event that gives businesses and individuals from across Wigan and Leigh the recognition they deserve, and every year, we seem to put more of ourselves into it.
ATTAIN has been part of the Wigan business community for more than 25 years. We’ve built relationships here, recruited locally, worked with businesses of every shape and size and supported organisations doing some incredible things within our communities. So, when the opportunity came along to help create an awards programme that genuinely celebrates the achievements of businesses across the borough, it felt like something we wanted to be part of.
We know how much hard work goes on behind the doors of businesses across Wigan and Leigh. We see the investment being made, the jobs being created, the apprentices being supported, the risks being taken and the contribution businesses make to their communities, and WBBA gives us an opportunity to celebrate that.
As Digital Partner, social media is naturally one of the more visible parts of our involvement, but behind the scenes, the ATTAIN team supports almost every stage of the WBBA journey. Our work includes the awards website and ongoing development, brand and creative support, social media, email communications, website content, blogs, digital forms, entry processes, the Hall of Recognition, event graphics, digital assets and reporting. There are also plenty of things that don’t fit neatly onto a list, such as problems that need solving, last-minute changes, new ideas that need bringing to life or information that needs communicating quickly, and all the little details that help everything come together. Alongside our day-to-day client work, our team puts a huge amount into supporting the awards each year, often during some particularly busy periods.
WBBA is very much a collective effort. Alongside ATTAIN, the awards are organised by Fubhub and Professionals of Wigan (POW), with each organisation bringing its own time, experience, relationships and commitment to making the awards a success. The wider support matters too, from our partners and sponsors to our judges, ambassadors, supporters and everyone who contributes behind the scenes, there are a lot of people who give their time and expertise to help make WBBA what it is, and ultimately, we all do it for the same reason.
Running an independent business isn’t always easy, and we believe it’s important to take time to recognise the people who are building businesses, creating employment, developing their teams, innovating and contributing to the place we all call home.
For one evening each year, WBBA brings hundreds of those people together in one room to celebrate what is being achieved across Wigan and Leigh, and that’s what makes all the work behind the scenes worthwhile.
Seeing businesses celebrate each other’s achievements and watching individuals receive recognition for something they’ve worked incredibly hard to achieve makes all those hours behind the scenes worthwhile. Being involved in WBBA reflects something that’s always been important to us at ATTAIN: supporting the place in which we do business.
Whether that’s through Wigan Borough Business Awards, our work with local charities and organisations, supporting local schools and colleges, or simply choosing to work with and recommend other independent businesses wherever we can, we believe businesses have an important role to play in the communities around them. Wigan Borough Business Awards gives us another way to put that belief into practice. We’re incredibly proud to be co-founders and Digital Partner, and even prouder to play our small part in celebrating the businesses and people that make Wigan and Leigh such a great place to do business.
